Location Demographics

The progressive suburb of Wantirna welcomes a laid-back environment filled with lush greenery and open community spaces. It is a part of the City of Knox and can be found 31kms east of Melbourne’s buzzing Central Business District. The place is recognised for its friendly and diverse residential areas and for having a handful of parks and reserves cultivating an active lifestyle. 

Having a safe and spacious location, Wantirna has seen families, singles, young couples and retirees settle seamlessly into the lovely neighbourhood. It is also rich in amenities and allows for access to city conveniences making the area even more popular. In the 2021 Census, the total population reached over 14 200 residents with the median age being 41 years old. There are around 4 100 established families living in the suburb and close to 5 300 private dwellings. The Australian Bureau of Statistics also found the majority of the people belong to the 35 to 40-year-old age category. 

 

Travel & Infrastructure

When it comes to public transport, there are a range of services to assist in your daily commute. The Heathmont Railway Station is around 4kms from the town centre and has 2 platforms. It is operated by Metro Trains and carries passengers across the Belgrave line. At a similar distance, the Bayswater Station also has 2 platforms following the Belgrave line. Plenty of buses are running with stops on Stud Road, Boronia Road and Wantirna Road. For a smooth trip, those travelling by car can take the Eastlink or Burwood Highway.

A major development by the City of Knox involves redeveloping the Wantirna Reserve located on Mountain Highway. There are currently 3 key projects underway which include a new hockey facility, the renewal of 5 tennis courts and the development of a masterplan for the precinct. Detailed designs and construction for the new hockey facility commenced in April 2022 with works expected to be completed by March 2023. The tennis courts will also look forward to seating and court lighting upgrades, fencing replacement, resurfacing and more.

Shopping

There are no shortages of malls and shops right within the vicinity for added convenience. Just under 4kms, the Westfield Knox Shopping Centre is much loved for its fashion brands, beauty and wellness events, entertainment, cafes and restaurants. For late dinners, the Knox O-Zone is an outdoor dining precinct lined up with all types of cuisines and has a cinema. Also a quick drive away, the well-known Eastland Shopping Centre boasts an array of clothing boutiques, supermarkets, homeware stores and quick eats. Share a meal with friends at McCluskey’s Bistro on Boronia Road with appetising dishes served at a large outdoor deck or at Wantirna Hill Club further down the road with modern meals in a family-friendly area. You’ll also find a blend of international dining to choose from along Stud Road.

Schools & Recreation

Students of all ages are able to be looked after at a variety of public and private schools nearby. Those in younger grades can attend Wantirna Primary School on Mountain Highway or Templeton Primary School on Crestdale Road. The Regency Park Primary School and St Luke’s Primary School are both less than a 2km distance while the Mariemont Preschool and the Billoo Park Preschool are right around the corner. Private education is also available with the Knox School and the Waverley Christian College Wantirna South Campus catering to all year levels. Tertiary students can join the Swinburne University of Technology Wantirna Campus or Eastern College Australia. 

With Wantirna’s idyllic setting and scenic features, spend some time relaxing and exploring the outdoors with the family. You could go for a stroll at Koomba Park and stop by at the Australian Jazz Museum for a tour of the exhibitions or walk along the Dandenong Creek Boardwalk. Just next door, you can also enjoy a game with friends at the Morack Public Golf Course or gather together at Nortons Park for a perfect spot to bring your pets for a play and to have a picnic. The David Cooper Park is close to 4kms away with a fun playground, BBQ facilities and a Duck Viewing Platform where you can see some wildlife. Held every Sunday, visit the Wantirna Trash and Treasure Market with stalls of goods, antiques and crafts.
