Location Demographics

The vibrant suburb of Gordon can be found around 17 km north-west from Sydney’s famous Central Business District and is a part of the flourishing Upper North Shore vicinity. Blending a tranquil neighbourhood lifestyle and city conveniences, the town is a popular residential destination and also hosts a handful of heritage-listed sites. These include the historic Eryldene residence, the Tulkiyan residence and more. Originally called ‘Lane Cove’, the place was then named Gordon after the Gordondale estate in June 1879. It now has a growing commercial sector, natural reserves and lush gardens. 

Surrounded by greenery and having a range of amenities, the diverse community of families, professionals and retirees have quickly settled in. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the total population at Gordon is made up of around 9 000 individuals and over 2 500 families. Furthermore, private dwellings have reached close to 4 000 properties that are a mix of townhouses, apartments and detached housing. The median age is 39 years old with most of the residents being between 45 to 50 years old.

Travel & Infrastructure

For daily commutes, passengers are able to easily access various public transport options nearby. The Gordon Railway Station is just within walking distance and has 3 platforms with trains following the North Shore & Western Line and Northern Line. NSW TrainLink services are also available and run along the Central Coast & Newcastle Line. If you’re wanting to catch a bus, there are several stops scattered all throughout with some on Darnley Street and Ryde Road. If you’re travelling by car, the Pacific Highway will ensure quick journey times. 

As part of the Ku-ring-gai Council’s projects, the Gordon streetscape works will include upgrades to St Johns Avenue and Henry Street. The council are looking forward to building an upbeat location and the new design will include widened footpaths, landscaped terraced areas for outdoor dining, raised pedestrian crossings and park improvements. On the other hand, footpaths, new streetlights, outdoor furniture and raised crossings have been completed at Wade Lane. To add, the council’s Delivery Program and Operational Plan will be focusing on a few themes involving community and culture, the natural environment, places and infrastructure, traffic and transport, the local economy and leadership.

Packed with supermarkets and stores, shoppers can find their everyday essentials without any hassle. Just around the corner, the Gordon Centre brings many retailers, fresh produce, beauty services and quick eats. Meanwhile, the St Ives Shopping Village is only a 4 km trip and has additional clothing brands, boutiques and groceries. When looking for a bite to eat, you can order breakfast and specialty coffee from the Pure Brew Co. Cafe or get a tasty brunch from the Missing Spoon Cafe. Try all kinds of cuisines with the Charmed by Hanuman Thai Restaurant cooking up delicious Thai dishes, the Porto Azzurro Restaurant serving appetising Italian meals and the Choyan Restaurant offering flavourful Chinese food. For an entertaining dinner, dine out with friends at the Fujiya Japanese Teppanyaki Restaurant or savour some steaks at the Grill At Gordon Restaurant. The Acacia Modern Japanese Dining Restaurant also has a lovely upscale setting and the Cockatoo Bar & Restaurant provides a great menu with set specials.

Schools & Recreation

Situated close to a number of quality schools, students are able to continue their studies with ease. Primary year levels are able to join the Gordon West Public School on Ryde Road or the Gordon East Public School on Rosedale Road. Young children are looked after at the Gordon Community Preschool or at the Pinjarra Early Years and Preschool. Those in secondary are able to attend the St Ives High School or the Ravenswood School for Girls which is just a short walk. Only 12 km away, take on higher education at the renowned Australian Catholic University North Sydney Campus. 

Whether you’re keen to explore nature or are wanting to keep active with recreational activities, Gordon welcomes everyone to relaxing outdoor spaces. The Gordon Recreation Ground has an inviting playground with a big climbing installation and tennis courts where you can enjoy a game or two. Under 3 km, visit the colourful flowers and plants at the Swain Gardens. You may also want to fix up a picnic for the family or go for a stroll to take in the scenery. Bring along your pets and check out the Bicentennial Park at West Pymble which has BBQ facilities, fitness equipment, sports ovals and cycling tracks.
