Location Demographics

The delightful suburb of Boronia is an idyllic escape from the fast-paced city lifestyle with peaceful nature reserves, parklands and tree-lined streets. It is situated around 37kms from Melbourne’s busy Central Business District and belongs to the growing City of Knox. Originally a part of the suburb of Bayswater, Boronia was named in 1915 and was mainly an orchard and farming area. It has continued to maintain a flourishing green environment and foster a friendly neighbourhood. 

Surrounded by lush greenery and public amenities, families, singles, retirees and young couples have happily moved in and embraced the strong sense of community. The Australian Bureau of Statistics has determined over 23 600 people make up the current population of Boronia and more than 10 200 private dwellings. Families have reached above 6 500 with numbers expected to rise as more residents settle down. The median age is 39 years old with the majority in the 30 to 35-year-old age group.

Travel & Infrastructure

For convenient commutes, there are multiple public transport options running regularly. The Boronia Railway Station is right within your reach and takes passengers on the Belgrave Line. It is operated by Metro Trains and has 2 platforms. Alternatively, buses are also travelling along Boronia Road with stops on Dorset Road and High Street as well. Drivers can take the Eastlink for direct routes and quicker trips. To add, the Airport Bus Eastside is on Kalman Drive and offers an airport shuttle service. 

Delivering the Suburb Revitalisation Program, the Victorian State Government has identified Boronia as a priority town for enhancing economic activity and liveability. They aim to provide employment opportunities, renewal projects and build a safe and connected community. Furthermore, the Knox City Council are looking forward to building a better Boronia by 2040 whilst preserving and protecting residential locations. Along with the Boronia Renewal Strategy, there are plenty of projects underway focusing on facade upgrades and including local artwork.

Shopping

You’ll find an assortment of retail services and dining choices not too far from home. The Boronia Mall is just an easy walk and has cafes, casual eateries and a few stores. Across the road, the Boronia Junction and the Boronia Village have more shops and supermarkets. For more, the Mountain High Shopping Centre and the Mountain Gate Shopping Centre are both under 4kms. The popular Westfield Knox Shopping Centre is close to 5kms and also has loads of fashion brands and entertainment. Grab classic bistro meals from a modern venue at the Boronia Hotel or get dinner at The Flavour Gallery Restaurant on Coleman Road.

 

Schools & Recreation

Having many schools at Boronia, students of all ages are able to build up their learnings with ease. Kindergarten children can join the Alchester Village Preschool or Goodstart Early Learning on Boronia Road. For child care centres, the Children’s House of Early Learning is within walking distance while Great Beginnings is around 3kms away. The Boronia K-12 College Mount View Campus caters to all year levels on Albert Avenue. Those in primary can attend the Boronia Heights Primary School, the Knox Central Primary School or the St Joseph’s Primary School. Meanwhile, the Eastern Suburbs School of Music is just a quick walk and the Swinburne University of Technology Croydon Campus is a 7km drive. 

Bordered by the Dandenong Ranges and picturesque scenery, experience what nature can offer and get outdoors. There are countless parks and tourist attractions for everyone. Organise a family outing at the Tim Neville Arboretum and have a lovely picnic or go for a stroll by the lakeside. The playground also has zip lines, slides, swings, climbing ropes and more for the kids to have fun. You can visit Boronia Park with your pets, watch sports games at Chandler Park or enjoy a BBQ at the Wicks Reserve. Spend the day with the wildlife at the iconic Dandenong Ranges National Park or go for a hike on the famous Kokoda Track Memorial Walk. Following the 1000 Steps Trail, step back and take in the relaxing and tranquil rainforest views. You also can’t miss stopping by at the renowned Puffing Billy Railway for open-air train rides through the hills.
