Location Demographics

The vibrant suburb of Alexandria brings together inner city attractions along with a strong sense of community. It can be found around 6kms south from Sydney’s prominent Central Business District and is well known for being a trendy and upbeat area. Historically, Alexandria was originally a large and booming industrial district with hundreds of manufacturing factories lining up the streets. The Alexandria Canal and the Enginemans Resthouse are a couple of heritage listings within the vicinity.

Having a friendly and multicultural neighbourhood, professionals, young adults and families feel right at home with the number of residents expected to increase. Being connected to a handful of public transport services, Alexandria is able to easily accommodate passengers nearby. Within walking distance, the St Peters Railway Station is operated by Sydney trains and has 4 platforms following the Bankstown Line, the Airport and South Line and the Eastern Suburbs and Illawarra Line. Buses are also running with a couple stops on Mitchell Road and at Maddox Street. Drivers are able to utilise access to Princes Highway and Southern Cross Drive for a direct journey.

The City of Sydney Council has announced planning rules to redevelop and transform Alexandria by delivering employment opportunities, building creative spaces, encouraging investment and providing affordable housing. They aim to support growth and promote the economy by renewing and revamping older commercial and industrial areas. Specifically, the proposal for north Alexandria focuses on preserving heritage character and creating a mid-rise enterprise precinct.

 

Shopping

From small businesses to big retailers and everything in between, you won’t need to worry about your shopping needs getting sorted with plenty of stores available. The Alexandria Homemaker Centre provides furniture, appliances, accessories and more while the Park Sydney Village is just a short walk away with supermarkets, medical and beauty services. Furthermore, you can find sportswear shops and clothing outlets on McEvoy Street, Botany Road and O’Riordan Street. When it comes to international dining, there are an array of modern restaurants and inviting cafes scattered all over town. Schools & Recreation

Families are able to choose from a mix of schools catering to all different year levels. Both primary and secondary students can attend Alexandria Park Community School which is under 2kms from the town centre. On the other hand, the Little Learning School is also available for the younger ones as well as the Wunanbiri Preschool. To build up more educational skills, the Aquatic Achievers Alexandria Swim School, the Young Actors Assemble Drama School and the Gardens of the Mind Art School are all less than 2kms away. Those in higher education are able to pick from renowned universities right around the corner such as, The University of Sydney, Charles Darwin University and La Trobe University.

As a unique and creative suburb with an abundance of features and recreational activities for all, there is never a dull moment. You can’t miss the iconic Ground of Alexandria with a sprawling cafe, restaurant, bakery, florist, scenic farm and monthly events. Visit Ice Zoo Sydney on Gardeners Road to test out your ice skating skills or challenge yourself at the Social Escape Rooms.
