Suburb Property Profile: Lidcombe, NSW 2141

Known for being a peaceful and laidback neighbourhood, the suburb of Lidcombe can be found just 19kms west of Sydney’s famous Central Business District. During the early 1900s, the name was created by combining the surnames of the previous mayor, Henry John Larcombe, with the serving mayor, Frederick Lidbury. The inner west town is also filled with popular landmarks and heritage-listed sites including the Royal Oak Hotel and the Lidcombe Hospital Precinct.

Local Demographics

Shared between the Cumberland Council and the City of Parramatta, the flourishing area is recognised for its growing mixture of residential, commercial and industrial developments. With a range of job opportunities and amenities, professionals, singles, families and students have moved in comfortably. The Australian Bureau of Statistics has calculated around 20 000 residents that’s expected to expand further. 

There are 6 400 established properties with detached housing making up the majority of dwelling structures. 

Travel & Infrastructure

As a progressive train line suburb, there is a range of services nearby to accommodate passengers catching public transport. The Lidcombe Train Station is a short walk away from the town centre and serves the North Shore and Western Line, the Inner West and Leppington Line, the Bankstown Line and the Olympic Park Line. Buses are also running at John and Church Street. Along with being equidistant to Parramatta and Sydney, drivers are able to easily take the Western Motorway towards the city. 


Surrounded by various malls and brands, shoppers are spoilt with plenty of choices. Less than 3kms away, the Lidcombe Shopping Centre has a selection of retailers and supermarkets. The Auburn Central Shopping Centre and Shopping Village are both just next door and bring additional services. DFO Homebush is under a 5km drive providing outlet stores and dining options. To satisfy your cravings, there are a variety of cuisines and restaurants located at Joseph and Railway Street. 

Schools & Recreation

For those studying, there are a number of schools available in the vicinity. The Lidcombe Public School and St Joachim’s Primary School are both within a quick walking distance. Meanwhile, the Little Sunshine Academy and St Joseph’s Childcare Centre are also right around the corner. Older students are able to attend the TAFE NSW Lidcombe Campus or the University of Sydney Cumberland Campus which are about a 2km drive. 

What’s going on in Lidcombe?

Right at the heart of Lidcombe, Remembrance Park is a great setting for a relaxing walk and where you can bring the kids along to the playground. With a basketball court and spacious fields, get active with some sports or take your pets for a walk at Coleman Park. To add, you can enjoy a game with friends at the Carnarvon Golf Club and take in the pretty scenery by the Water Park. The Sydney Olympic Park is about 5kms away for more events and activities with the family.
