Location Demographics

Encompassed by waterfront views and the flowing Coomera River, the established suburb of Hope Island is situated close to 25kms north of the Gold Coast and Surfers Paradise. It can also be found 61kms south-east of Brisbane’s Central Business District and is a part of the City of Gold Coast. In the 1800s, the town was named after Captain Louis Hope to recognise his work in developing Queensland’s sugar industry. The vicinity is now known for being home to the Hope Island Resort and to Sanctuary Cove’s affluent gated community.

With its close proximity to the beach and access to various amenities, residents and visitors are keen to become part of Hope Island’s growing community. Families, retirees, singles and professionals are able to enjoy a healthy outdoor lifestyle in a safe and friendly neighbourhood. The Australian Bureau of Statistics has estimated the total population to reach around 15 000 people and over 4 400 families. There are also close to 7 000 private dwellings with more expected to be built. To add, the median age is 50 years old.

Travel & Infrastructure

Everyone is able to commute with ease by having a selection of public transport options available. If you’re wanting to catch the train, the Coomera Railway Station is close to 9kms by car and has 2 platforms heading along the Gold Coast Line. Plenty of buses are also operating with some stops on Helensvale Road and Santa Barbara Road. Drivers are directly connected to the Pacific Motorway allowing for seamless and efficient journeys. 

A key focus for the Cross River Rail Project is designing and delivering the Hope Island Station Precinct. The Queensland Government is looking forward to providing convenient rail services for passengers and expanding the ways to travel throughout the region. In response to local feedback, the new station will feature accessible car parks and future car park expansions, bus stops, planned connection to local pedestrian and cycle paths, lifts on each platform, an undercover enclosure for bicycles and more. Construction works will be commencing in early 2023.

 

Shopping

For all things shopping, you’ll be able to find a bunch of speciality stores and supermarkets nearby. The Hope Island Shopping Centre is just a short walk and has retailers and health and beauty services. They also put together monthly events along with the Hope Island Marina Markets which is held every 3rd Sunday of the month. For more, the Hope Island Marketplace has a few fast food choices, groceries and a medical centre. Taste international cuisines and experience riverside dining with the House of Siam Restaurant serving Thai dishes and the Hope Island Blue Water Grill offering a delicious menu by the marina. You can also have dinner at George’s Paragon Seafood Restaurant or spend the night at the Sanctuary Cove Tavern.

Schools & Recreation

Having a handful of schools in the area, students of all year levels are properly accommodated and looked after. The Coomera State School and the Coombabah State School are both around 6kms away for those in primary school. At a similar distance, secondary students can join Helensvale State High School and Saint Stephen's College. Meanwhile, the Hope Island Early Learning Sanctuary and the La Grande Ecole Kindergarten cater to preschoolers. Children can gain extracurricular learning at the Rackley Swimming School or at the Gold Coast Tennis Academy. Close to a 17km drive, the Griffith University Gold Coast Campus offers an array of tertiary courses. 

At Hope Island, there are loads of activities to do and plenty of destinations that show off the very best of the Sunshine State. Both less than 8 km, visit the fun amusement rides at the Warner Bros. Movie World Theme Park and at the Dreamworld Theme Park. Bring the family to cool off at the Wet'n'Wild Water Park or check out the Australian Outback Spectacular Show with music and horseback riding. Set against wide spaces and green fields, play some golf at the renowned Palms Golf Course. Alternatively, the Hope Island Resort Golf Course and the Links Hope Island Golf Club are both under a 3km trip. Charles Holm Park is right by the water and has a playground, a boat ramp and bbq and picnic facilities.
