Situated at the heart of the Swan River, the unique suburb of Como seamlessly blends the bustling city experience with the relaxing beachside lifestyle. It is located just around 8kms south from Perth’s popular Central Business District. During 1905, the land was subdivided and given the name ‘Como Estate’ which was where the name had originated from. Surrounded by Western Australia’s iconic attractions, the area is also well known for welcoming tourists and locals to visit.

Local Demographics

Belonging to the City of South Perth, the place has been recognised for being a charming and peaceful community with accessible amenities. There are a growing number of residents moving in particularly, families, students, singles and professionals. The Australian Bureau Of Statistics has estimated about 14 100 occupants that’s expected to multiply in the following years. To add, there are nearly 7 500 established properties with most being townhouses and detached housing.

Travel & Infrastructure

With a handful of public transport services close to home, passengers are able to be serviced and can enjoy a smooth commute. At the Canning Bridge Station, you can access multiple buses heading towards nearby suburbs or catch a train that follows the Mandurah Line. There are plenty of bus stops scattered around the vicinity with a bunch running along Thelma Street and Labouchere Road. Drivers can travel with ease by taking either the Canning Highway or Kwinana Freeway.


When it comes to your shopping needs, everyone can select from a variety of much-loved stores and brands. Both under 5kms, the South Shore Shopping Centre and Mends Street Arcade boasts an array of cafes, retailers and supermarkets. The Waterford Plaza is around 3kms away with more dining choices and services. Across the river, the inner city malls also bring together many boutiques and outlets. These include the London Court and Picadilly Arcade. 

Schools & Recreation

There is no shortage of schools available and students of different year levels are able to be fully accommodated. The Como School of Early Learning, Primary School and Secondary College are all conveniently within walking distance. For more options, the Collier Primary School and Penrhos College are both less than 2kms away. On the other hand, the South Metropolitan TAFE Bentley Campus and Curtin University are both about a 4km drive from the town centre.

To unwind, you can have a stroll down the Como Beach Jetty which offers breathtaking sunset views or bring the kids to Neil McDougall Park for some outdoor fun. At the Collier Park Golf Course, you can take in the lovely scenery while having a game with friends. Just a stone’s throw away, the family can get up close with the wildlife at Perth Zoo or venture into the city to see renowned landmarks. You may want to check out the Bell Tower, Museum of Perth or Stirling Gardens. Elizabeth Quay also presents artistic waterside features with a carousel and water park.
