Location Demographics

The upbeat suburb of Blacktown is located around 43 km west of Sydney’s buzzing Central Business District and 15 km west of Parramatta. It is a part of the Greater Western Sydney region and has been recognised as one of the most multicultural places in the state. In 1906, the Shire of Blacktown was formed and was mainly rural. Towards the 1950s and 1960s, there was a large amount of civic and suburban development.  The town is now known for its growing commercial sector and for having accessible facilities including the Blacktown Hospital and Blacktown Arts Centre. 

Welcoming a diverse and friendly neighbourhood, students, professionals, families and singles have quickly felt right at home. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, close to 51 000 people make up the entire population. The number of private dwellings continue to multiply with around 18 800 properties already built. Furthermore, the median age is 34 years old and most of the residents are between 25 to 30 years old. There are close to 13 000 families with more expected to move in.

Travel & Infrastructure

Passengers are able to travel easily with multiple public transport services available. A short walk, the Blacktown Railway Station is operated by Sydney Trains and has 7 platforms. It is a major transport hub and follows the North Shore & Western Line, the Cumberland Line, the Blue Mountains Line and the NSW TrainLink Western Line. Plenty of buses are also running with stops on Main Street and Newton Road. Those driving are directly linked to the Western Motorway and the Westlink. 

Following community consultation, the Blacktown City Council has developed a new cultural plan called ‘Our Creative City’. It is centred on the enhancement of culture, arts, heritage facilities and key initiatives across the vicinity. The 6 strategic directions are aimed towards having a vibrant, inclusive and resilient community, a clean, sustainable and climate resilient city, a smart and prosperous economy, a growing city supported by accessible infrastructure, a healthy and active city and a leading city. The council are wanting to prioritise showcasing local talent, fostering civic pride and providing forums and networking opportunities. 

 

Shopping

Packed with popular clothing brands, department stores and groceries, get your shopping sorted in no time! Right around the corner, the Westpoint Shopping Centre has a large mall with a cinema, food outlets, gyms, bowling and a gaming zone. There are also a bunch of retailers, supermarkets and beauty services. Head over to the Blacktown MegaCentre for your homeware needs, fast food options and a medical centre. Satisfy your cravings at Rene's Pizza Place, Eucalyptus Dining Restaurant or at the Lyton Noodle House. The Villaggio Bistro serves authentic Italian and Mediterranean cuisine while the Lone Star Rib House Restaurant offers tasty steak meals and American dishes. Grab lunch at the Fiesta Avenue Restaurant on Main Street or order dinner at Ronnie's Pizza House on Flushcombe Road.

Schools & Recreation

Blacktown has a range of schools nearby where all year levels are able to attend and build up their studies. Primary grades are able to join the Blacktown South Public School or the St Patrick's Primary School. The Blacktown West Public School and Mitchell High School are both less than 3 km away. Preschool children are able to come along to the Happy Days Kindergarten or to the Aurora Early Learning Centre. Gain learnings at the Johnson Music School or pursue higher education at the Australian Catholic University Blacktown Campus. 

With heaps to discover, spend time outdoors at the vast parklands and explore what makes the area one of a kind! Gather together at the Blacktown Showground and enjoy a nice picnic with the family. You’ll also find basketball courts, a playground and wonderful water features. The Blacktown Showground Precinct Water Play Park is next door where the kids can splash around and cool off. Bring your pets for a walk along the green fields at Francis Park and check out the Community Garden. Have a fun day out at Inflatable World Blacktown or see a movie at the Skyline Drive In. You could also look through the colourful exhibitions at the Leo Kelly Blacktown Arts Centre and get involved with the creative workshops. Around a 6 km trip, the Blacktown Markets has over 200 stalls mixed with assorted goods, vendors and live music.
