Eco-friendly hobbit homes become a reality

If you’ve always dreamed of living in your very own hobbit hole, but don’t fancy travelling all the way to Middle Earth to live in one then your dream is just one home away!

Green Magic Homes have come up with the idea to build tiny pre-fabricated houses that look identical to the Hobbit holes seen in The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings trilogy, and the best thing about it is that they can be assembled in just a few days by three people!

These pre-fabricated shells, made from fibre-reinforced polymer can actually be assembled in the exact way you want in various combinations allowing you to create all the space that you require. A three bedroom house will usually take approximately five or six days to construct, whilst a one bedroom may take three days to assemble and seal.

Inside you can have all the comforts of home including a kitchen, lounge, dining room and bedroom, but the pods can also be used as a guest house, studio space or even a man cave – the opportunities are endless!

These homes, just like hobbit holes in the movie, are designed for residents to live underground and are situated under a layer of soil and turf, or if greenery isn’t for you then you can always opt for sand or even snow, depending on the location.

These cosy hobbit homes are also eco-friendly and residents can even grow and produce food and vegetables on the roof!

Easy to assemble, once you have decided on a floor plan, all you need to do is screw all the different components together and seal them, and then you can add all the dirt, grass and veggies on top. The vegetation on the roof not only looks good and provides food, but it acts as a natural insulator allowing your new hobbit home to stay cool in the summer and warm in winter.

The dirt also acts to stabilise and strengthen the structure, ensuring that the roof is not a dead load. And for true hobbit fans, then the windows and doors are round in shape to keep with hobbit architecture.

When it rains, then you don’t have to worry about getting wet as these homes are waterproof and are designed to withstand strong winds. The designers also mentioned that under normal conditions, these homes can also withstand an earthquake with a magnitude of 10 on the Richter scale.

So if you don’t fancy waiting two years for completion of a new property then a new hobbit home could be your answer with prices starting at $14,998USD or $20,915AUD. And with a distributor in Australia, perhaps hobbit holes could be the answer Sydneysiders and Tolkien fans are looking for in terms of affordability and super fast construction times.
