Brisbane voted world’s eighth most beautiful city
In a recent social media poll conducted by the travel guide company Rough Guides on Facebook and Twitter, Brisbane has been ranked within the top 10 of the world’s most beautiful cities which comes as a surprise to some, especially as Sydney only made it to number 13.
Rough Guides even describes Brisbane as “a surprising entry in 8th place, Brisbane – Queensland Australia’s largest city – has been chosen for its winning combination of high-rise modern architecture, lush green spaces and the enormous Brisbane River that snakes its way through the centre before emptying itself into the azure Moreton Bay.”
The Australian city beats the likes of cultural Kyoto full of gorgeous traditional temples, the grand and elegant architecture of Seville and even the stunning coastal city of Spain’s San Sebastian.
So what makes this city beautiful? Brisbane is a city that has been undergoing a great amount of transformation of late, and seems to have it all. Stunning architecture, both new and old, a great sense of culture, gorgeous parklands and Botanic Gardens; a high number of public spaces and vantage points from Kangaroo Point Cliffs and Mount Coot-tha lookout offering spectacular panoramic views; there’s even the Streets Beach! Of course, the weather helps with Brisbane having an average of 261 sunny days a year and benefits from warm or hot weather most of the year.
The Guardian has also listed Brisbane as a Holiday Hotspot for 2015, whilst Lonely Planet last year named Brisbane Australia’s hippest city.
Italy’s capital city, Rome took the number one spot, whilst Florence took number two and Paris was named the third most beautiful city in the world.
