Suburb Profile: Toowong, QLD

Right next door to the popular Mount Coot-Tha and along the riverside, the suburb of Toowong can be found around 7kms west of Brisbane’s lively Central Business District. The town offers both inner-city conveniences and welcoming spaces filled with greenery. During the 1860s, the place was rapidly being developed and was recognised for its detached villas. There are also several historical sites within the area such as the Toowong Memorial Park and the Regatta Hotel.

The Neighbours 

The community belongs to the Brisbane City Council and continues to grow with expanding commercial businesses and amenities. In the neighbourhood, there are various residents who have moved in including professionals, established families and retirees. The Australian Bureau of Statistics have estimated the population to reach close to 11 000 occupants and continues to increase while the median age is 29 years old. There are close to 5 000 dwellings that include mostly flats and apartments.

The Commute

With several modes of public transport nearby, commuters are able to be well looked after. Only a short walking distance, the Toowong Train Station is operated by Queensland Rail and services passengers along the Springfield and Ipswich and Rosewood railway lines. To add, there are a number of bus stops on Dean Street and Woodstock Road. Those who are travelling by car can quickly utilise the Western Freeway for a more convenient journey.

Shopping For The Family  

Shoppers can enjoy quick access to their weekly necessities with malls and services close to home. The Toowong Village opens its doors to a retail complex with department stores, multiple dining options, boutiques and supermarkets. For a bite to eat, there are different types of cuisines and restaurants to choose from on Sherwood Road. Less than 3kms away, you can find even more brands at the Indooroopilly Shopping Centre and Junction. 

The School Run

For more convenience, there are a range of schools within the vicinity where students can attend. The Toowong State School, Brisbane Boys College and Queensland Academy for Science, Mathematics and Technology are all just an easy walk from the town centre. Meanwhile, the Toowong and Jahjumbeen Child Care Centres are both within a 1km walk. Also, close by, the University of Queensland is about a 4km drive and offers many tertiary courses.

What’s Going On?  

The Anzac Park offers the perfect setting for a barbeque or picnic with friends and family. You can bring along your pets for a play at the dog park area and have some fun with the kids at the playground. You may also choose to explore the renowned Brisbane Botanic Gardens which features a tropical display dome with colourful gardens and countless native and exotic plants. At the Mt Coot tha lookout, you can take in the idyllic scenery and breathtaking views of the city.
