Suburb Profile: Rhodes, NSW

At the heart of the Parramatta River, the progressive suburb of Rhodes brings a unique blend of natural scenery and vibrant city life. It can be found around 16km west of Sydney’s iconic Central Business District. Also referred to as the Rhodes Peninsula, it is recognised for its ongoing commercial and residential growth. The Kokoda Track Memorial Walkway and the Meadowbank Rail Bridge over Parramatta River are a couple of the well-known historical sites in the vicinity. 

The Neighbours

The growing area belongs to the City of Canada Bay and has been attracting significant development projects that are aimed towards enhancing community engagement and amenities. The community is mainly comprised of families, professionals, singles and retirees. The Australian Bureau of Statistics has calculated the population to reach about 12 000 people with more residents being added every year. According to the City of Canada Bay, the established dwellings are predominantly medium and high-density apartments.

The Commute

To cater for those catching public transport, passengers won’t have to go far with reliable services conveniently at their doorstep. The Rhodes Train Station is right at the town centre and ferries passengers across surrounding inner west and northern suburbs. If you’re wanting to catch a bus nearby, there are stops available by Concord Road and Walker Street. Drivers also have access to the M4 Motorway for a quick journey.

Shopping For The Family

When it comes to your retail necessities, the Rhodes Waterside Shopping Centre offers a range of department stores, supermarkets and is packed with popular brands. It’s easily within a short walking distance or a 1km drive away. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants to choose from where you can enjoy delicious meals along with riverside views. The Marina Square is around an 8km trip and provides more options with a variety of quality eateries.

The School Run

Families and students won’t have to search far with numerous schools just around the corner. Both a quick walk away, the Rhodes Children’s Centre and Rhodes Central Preschool Kindergarten are able to take care of your younger ones. Meanwhile, the Concord West, Victoria Avenue and Wentworth Point Public Schools are all under 8kms by car. For more specialised interests, the SEDA College Olympic Park Campus and the NSW Institute of Education and Training are also close by.

At a unique location, you can spend time relaxing at the Brays Bay Reserve or have fun at the outdoor playground in McIlwaine Park. The Rhodes Foreshore Park is a great place to take your pet for a stroll with a dog park just next door. You can explore what’s on at the Sydney Olympic Park with a handful of community, art and sport events being held regularly. To add, the Homebush Bay Corso Park and John Whitton Reserve both create the ideal setting where you can unwind by the water.
