With lush greenery and open spaces, the suburb of Petersham offers a picturesque setting where you can get settled and build your home. It is situated at a prime location around 8kms south-west of Sydney’s bustling Central Business District. The town was given the name of a native village in Surrey, England and was recognised for its agricultural area in the 1800s. It continues to carry a couple of heritage-listed sites and local landmarks including the Petersham Town Hall and Reservoir.
Belonging to the rapidly developing Inner West Sydney area, Petersham opens its doors to a variety of occupants. Families, professionals, singles and first home buyers are welcomed into a friendly and growing community. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the population has reached about 8,000 residents with the majority belonging to the 30 to 39 years old age group. There are a handful of convenient public transport options available to assist with the daily commute. Petersham Train Station is just within walking distance being less than a kilometre away from the town centre. For quick journeys, there are also a bunch of buses that are running along Crystal Streets, New Canterbury Road and within the surrounding vicinity. Drivers can enjoy quick access to Parramatta Road for an easy trip into the heart of the city.

Shopping For The Family
Shoppers won’t have to go far with a number of stores and services right at their doorstep. The Norton Plaza and MarketPlace at Leichhardt offers a range of supermarkets, modern brands and casual dining choices with both being under 2km away. There are several cafes and restaurants located on Audley Street for some lunch or a coffee to start the day. Right next door, the Marrickville Metro and Newtown Central Shopping Centres are a short 3km by car.
The School Run
With plenty of schools close by, families with children and students of all ages are looked after. The Petersham Public School, Fort Street High School and Newington College are all less than a 2km drive. Meanwhile, the Petersham Early Childhood Centre and the KU Petersham Preschool are also nearby. To cater for those pursuing further education, the TAFE NSW Petersham is just a short walk while the University of Sydney is right around the corner.

Whether it’s a day spent getting active at Petersham Park, having a swim at the Fanny Durack Aquatic Centre or checking out the artworks at the Newsagency Gallery, there’s no shortage of activities you can get involved in. You can unwind at the Brighton Street Reserve or have a lovely picnic while taking in the scenery at Maundrell Park. Along with tasty cuisines, the Italian Forum also hosts events, festivals and night markets for a fun night out with family and friends.
