Suburb Profile: Indooroopilly, QLD

Set right on the beautiful Brisbane River, sits the charming suburb of Indooroopilly about 7kms west of Brisbane’s bustling Central Business District. The area is surrounded by green spaces and boasts a welcoming, thriving community. This inner-city suburb has become known for its busy commercial and retail hubs whilst also embracing a relaxed, leafy, riverside atmosphere that only the Sunshine State can offer. It is home to a few heritage-listed sites including the Albert Bridge, Walter Taylor Bridge and a handful of historical villas.

The Neighbours

The steadily growing neighbourhood belongs to the City of Brisbane area and is popular with professionals, families, retirees, singles and university students. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the population was calculated to reach around 12, 200 residents, with the median age being 30 years old. There are close to 5,200 private dwellings in the area that are mostly a mix of detached housing and medium density apartments.

The Commute

For those relying on public transport, there is a range of options available to conveniently service passengers for a safe journey. Right at your doorstep, the Indooroopilly Train Station is easily accessible being just a short walk or drive down the hill from the Indooroopilly Shopping Centre. The Indooroopilly Bus station at the shopping centre is a key transit centre for buses all over the Western suburbs and into the city, with a number of bus routes servicing Central Avenue and Lambert Road via the University of Queensland. Meanwhile, drivers are able to utilise the Centenary Motorway for easy access to the city and nearby suburbs. 

Shopping For The Family 

There’s no shortage of popular brands and shops to supply everyone’s shopping needs in the area. Less than 1km away, the shopping mecca of Indooroopilly Shopping Centre filled with countless retailers, restaurants and a movie theatre. Also in the area, the Indooroopilly Junction and Central both bring homeware stores and extra services to one place while being within walking distance of each other and the Shopping Centre. You can grab a bite to eat for lunch or have dinner with friends from a variety of cuisines located on Coonan Street and Station Road.

The School Run 

The area boasts plenty of high quality primary and secondary education options to choose from. These include Brigidine College, the Indooroopilly State Primary and High School which are just next door. The world-class University of Queensland caters for higher education students sits right next door in the University precinct of St Lucia. The younger ones just starting out are also looked after at the Goodstart Early Learning and Indooroopilly Kindergarten.

What’s Going On? 

Encompassed by many parks and reserves, Indooroopilly residents are spoilt for choice when it comes to being able to enjoy the great outdoors. Choose to get active at the Rainbow Forest Park, catch a game at Jack Speare Park or take the pets on a walk to the Carinya Street Park. For breathtaking mountain top views, The Summit Lookout at Mount Coot-Tha is around 8kms away with the J.C. Slaughter Falls just further up ahead the perfect place to enjoy hiking trails or a relaxing picnic.
